ELISAVA GOES TO SPACE
BLOON is a technologic innovative project that will change the trips to the stratosphere.
ELISAVA and the aerospace company Zero 2 Infinity join forces to give shape to one of the most ambitious aspirations of future mobility.
Barcelona, November 15th.- “The last challenge of interior design of mobility” was presented in Barberà del Vallès. It is a future project that consists on designing the inside of the BLOON capsule, which will do commercial and leisure trips to the space’s frontier. During 9 months, 7 students of ELISAVA, Barcelona School of Design and Engineering, in collaboration with the Catalan company of space logistics Zero 2 Infinity, will be in charge of giving shape to this challenge from the knowledge but also from emotion.
With this challenge, ELISAVA strengthens some of its fundamental lines, like research and the connection with the social, local and international context. The School believes in this kind of projects, which yesterday they were part of the dreams and today they are in process of materializing in pure reality.
The project’s presentation, in which José Mariano López-Urdiales (CEO and founder of Zero 2 Infinity), David Lozano Jiménez (In charge of the design and mechanization of BLOON), Marc Rovira (Business Developer & Aerospace Engineer of Zero 2 Infinity), Albert Fuster Martí (Academic Director ELISAVA) and Marc Valls (Bussines Relations ELISAVA) have participated, has served to give the bases of what will be an experience without comparison around the flight. “BLOON’s mission is to efficiently facilitate the access to space, where sky is black during the day and at night, and at a lower cost” said José Mariano López-Urdiales at the beginning of the presentation.
Few are the companies that are currently working on the ambit of aerospace tourism, so this alliance with Zero 2 Infinity puts ELISAVA at the forefront, offering technological excellence and a team that will be formed by seven students.
And what does this project consist on? On defining the inside disposition of the BLOON transport capsule with the aim of designing a feasible and ergonomic living space that would take sis persons (two pilots and four passengers) into space during six hours. This means that the design of all the visible furniture like seats, compartments, screens, toilet, etc. will be taken into consideration. The illumination will be also important, as well as all everything related to the passenger’s experience inside the toroidal vehicle (ring shape). In conclusion, the project will consist on designing the inside of the capsule that will serve as a mean of transport for these passengers to the stratosphere (to 40 km away from the Earth’s surface), a unique experience and until now only available for astronauts.
What is BLOON?
The capsule BLOON is the first vehicle of Zero 2 Infinity, which will give the traveler breathtaking views beyond the blue sky we see on earth, two times higher of what commercial planes reach. The experience will bring closer the user to space’s immensity, using a secure helium balloon and an aerospace transportation case with panoramic windows.
Zero 2 Infinity
With headquarters in Barcelona, Zero 2 Infinity works on spatial science. Its aim is to facilitate the trip of the man to space, with a zero environmental impact.
